Update from Rob Thomas on "Veronica Mars Movie"

ia Pipe Dream: According to Thomas it all came down to a game of numbers. "What they do is they actually run numbers on it, " he said. "They go out and test the marketing, the audience-awareness tests, and they actually did that and the numbers didn't come back strongly enough for Warner Bros. to say, " Yeah, let's do it. " While the pitch is not officially dead, it was not the immediate green light Thomas said he was hoping for.

This was posted at a recent member meeting to honor those who have kept the faith.

Hi everyone, I have a message that has been passed along to all our myspace members by one of the Neptune Rising founders. In the beginning, when we started Neptune Rising, we came up with a Mission Statement that said that it wouldn't be easy [to keep the faith and get back Veronica Mars] but we were in it for the long haul. Well here we are almost 20 months later and we have the very real possibility of realizing one of our dreams , A Veronica Mars movie. We aren't the only VM fans that wanted a movie but we did make a contribution to making it a reality so we can all be congratulated for that. Some of our friends that helped to get us to this point are no longer here fighting with us but we have new friends that stepped up to take their places. The campaign isn't waged only by sending letters, signing petitions and making phone calls. We also fight by holding our community together and by staying friends because that enables us to keep waging the campaign on all the other levels that we take it to. We have weathered together losing friends that lost faith, struggling with funding problems and even finding the time to keep campaigning but we have stayed together. We recently lost our original forum due to technical problems but we were prepared with a back up plan and moved to this forum before it disappeared all together. The people that I've met here and who if you are new here will get to know, will be people that you remember forever and who I'm grateful to have working in the trenches with us. Everyone on here has done their part in helping to get us this far and I want to thank you and congratulate you on a job well done.

Wonderful news on our Veronica Mars Movie!! 1/17/2009

Excerpt from iFMagazine.com:

At the tail end of this winter’s television critic’s event, Rob Thomas, who has resurrected his 1998 TV series CUPID for another go-around on ABC, announced that he’s currently working on a VERONICA MARS feature film (based on his short-lived UPN/CW show), now that his new series order has been reduced from thirteen episodes to eight episodes.

"That means I have time to write the VERONICA MARS movie," he says.
